The 12th stage of the Giro di Italia is behind us. On paper, it was "tailored for classic riders": 193 km and several stiff climbs. Julian Alaphilippe attacked from the peloton with over 140 km to the finish line and moments later a larger group joined and increased their advantage. As the kilometers passed and difficulties mounted, the escape diminished. On the last climb, the two-time world champion attacked again and reached the finish line in impressive style.
